Terms of Service

Effective 2026-10-27

1. Who we are and who you contract with

WordLamp (the "Service", wordlamp.net) is operated by Ying Shi, an individual (sole proprietor) in the United States, trading as WordLamp ("we", "us", "the Seller"). By using the Service you enter into an agreement with Ying Shi on these Terms. Contact: [email protected].

2. The Service

WordLamp is a vocabulary study app with illustrated entries, spaced-repetition practice and AI-generated writing feedback. It is not an official IELTS product and is not affiliated with the owners or administrators of the IELTS test.

3. Eligibility and acceptance

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to use online services. By continuing to use the Service you agree to these Terms.

4. AI feedback

Writing feedback and band scores are automatically generated estimates for study purposes. They are not official IELTS scores, may contain mistakes, and do not predict or guarantee any test result. You are responsible for how you use them.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the text you submit. You grant us a limited licence to process it solely to provide the Service to you, which includes sending it to a third-party AI provider (see our Privacy Policy). We do not store submitted essays: they are discarded once your feedback has been produced. Your learning progress is kept only in your own browser; you can export it from the app at any time, and clearing your browser data deletes it. Do not submit anything unlawful, or personal information about other people.

6. Acceptable use

Do not abuse the Service, bypass usage limits, scrape it at scale, interfere with its operation, or resell access to it. A Pro license key is for your personal use: do not share, publish or resell it. We may disable keys that are shared widely or used abusively.

7. Ownership and open-source content

Subject to the open-source licences below, we retain ownership of the Service, including our modifications, documentation and branding. WordLamp is derived from the open-source project Word Atlas. Application code is under the MIT License; vocabulary data, illustrations and word recordings are by Word Atlas contributors under CC BY 4.0. See the About page and the project's NOTICE file. These licences apply to that material independently of these Terms.

8. Paid plans and Merchant of Record

When paid plans are available, our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles payment, sales taxes, invoicing, customer service for orders and refunds, and its buyer terms apply to the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. See our Refund Policy.

9. Availability and changes

The Service is provided "as is" and may change, be interrupted or be discontinued. We may change usage limits and prices; price changes are shown on the pricing page before you buy.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we provide the Service without warranties of any kind, and our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50 if you paid nothing. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access after repeated or serious violations of these Terms.

12. Complaints

If you have a complaint, email [email protected]. We aim to reply within 3 business days and to resolve it within 14 days. For purchases you can also contact Paddle at paddle.net, or the consumer protection authority in your country or state.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer law of your country applies.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The effective date above shows the latest version. Continued use means you accept the update.
